The wonderful encounter between Clay and Do paper
"Clay & Do Paper" exhibits 45 pottery pieces by Nguyen Bao Toan and 26 paintings on Do paper by Ly Truc Son. The Exhibition took place at the Vietnam Fineart Museum in Hanoi from the 7th to 11th November, 2017. This was the second time the two artists had colaborated in an exhibition to show the harmony and beauty of two different materials: Do paper and the pottery. Indochine Art Company is the media sponsor for this exhibition.
Nguyen Bao Toan (born in 1950) is renown for his art practices on many materials and types. "Clay through fire" is the way he calls pottery - the material has brought much success for him. His pottery pieces carry a rough, rustic quality, but always has the unexpected changes in shaping, fire techniques. He wants to create a private space, a language for his own pottery from the traditional ceramic art of Vietnam.
The 45 works by Nguyen Bao Toan are not simply pottery pieces but also create a space that leads viewers to the art of pottery - with familiar subjects such as jars, animal figures, ... and especially the portraits of the artist himself.
Ly Truc Son (born 1949) has been wellknown as an experienced lacquer artist in Vietnam. He is also very skillful in many other materials such as oil, watercolor, Do paper. He has spent a lot of time to study the traditional Do paper, and created a new way of painting using this material. He even make his own color pigments from flowers and plant.
In this exhibition, Ly Truc Son introduced 26 paintings on Do paper in abstract language such as: Metamorphose, Earth's Flower, Bloosom in the Vacuum, Dzo Blue, Trembling space, The Magnitude, using his self-made colors.
